Macsteel Trading has an office based design service to provide advice and design assistance. To help optimize the designs on specific projects and to assist the engineers to gain familiarity and expertise in cellular beam design, Macsteel Trading's engineers will attend to project design meetings. All cellular beam designs are carried out using the analysis program, CELLBEAM, written by the SCI in the UK. The structural integrity and design criteria have been verified following full scale destructive testing at Bradford University in 1988, Leeds University in 1995 and the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (U.M.I.S.T) in 2000. Tests have also been conducted locally as well; one at the University of Natal in 2001 and the other at the University of Pretoria.
